Chronicling Santa's Midlife Meltdown
The Not-So-Fairy-Tale Story of Santa’s Midlife Crisis
After 235 years of Nice, Santa wants a little Naughty
Kris Kringle has lost his Jolly. He’s been doing the same job — year in, year out — since 1782. Dealing with elves who want to strike… kids who not only don’t believe, but these days physically accost him… a controlling wife who’s out to take over as CEO of Kringle Enterprises… Boy, good ol’ Santa Claus needs a break. So on the day after Christmas he gathers up his two BFFs (Blitzen the Drunk Reindeer and Penelope the Perennially Pissed Off Puffin) and heads down to Key West for a wild, midlife crisis (mis)adventure.
What the huh…?! Hi! You’ve somehow found your way to the home of “The Day After Christmas,” a (hopefully novel-lenth) story that I’m currently writing. I’ll be posting in-progress chapters of my new tale about a 255-year-old magical being who goes on Spring Break. While I was writing yesterday I thought, hey, maybe I should post some of this online and see if anyone likes it… or am I going too far…? The story is a little twisted – it’s not for little kids. (As a mom of a 12-year-old boy, I’m trying to create a PG-13 world, so if you have younger kids and want to read on… you’ve been warned!)
I’ll be updating little bits and pieces of the story as I create it… which hopefully will be on a regular basis! (But ya know, I work and am a mom and wife too, so who knows how long it’s going to take… sigh…) But my plan is to post as I write, titling each entry with a Chapter number (even though they aren’t really the chapters and it’s all just very rough first drafts of story ideas). But this way each entry will have sequential numbers so you can read the whole story from beginning to end if you want. I’ve posted the first few chapters and have given myself the artificial deadline of this Christmas (2017) to have the rest of it done. Pffft. Wish me luck with THAT one…!
So thanks for stopping by. And if you read any of the chapters, I’d love to hear what you think. It’s so hard to just write into a void… which is why I’m creating this site – so I can get feedback. Good or bad, I’d love to hear what you think (really! As long as it’s an honest comment, it’s totally useful!!).
So, what are you waiting for? C’mon! Let’s get our Jolly On!
